Workington hustings – Parliament, the executive and judicial review

At the end of the evening I got to ask my own question. It was the final question and so I didn’t get the chance to follow up on candidate’s answers, unfortunately. Even so, what they did say is interesting in the light of the tory manifesto which includes plans to allow the government (prime minister and cabinet) to make law without reference to parliament and without any fear of judicial review.

Basically they’re proposing an ‘enabling act’ that would turn this country into a dictatorship, presumably with Boris in the driving seat.

Now that’s terrifying!
